Interviewed by Renee at Womanist Musings

Renee of Womanist Musings, one of my favourite blogs, is conducting a series of interviews with women for an International Women's Day project.

She interviewed me, and the questions and answers have just gone up on her site.

I can't even begin to describe how stoked I was to be asked to participate... or how nervous I am now that the interview is up! The interview developed a more or less sex workers rights focus, which makes me doubly nervous.

Head over and have a read.

As I said there, I'm glad to hear it!

I warn that I tend to post in binges... bad habit of mine. Welcome aboard!

Hi, Hexy.

I also read your interview on Womanist Musings, and found what you had to say really enlightening.

Your comment about choice was probably the most interesting to me; I consider myself a radical feminist, and agree with much of what radical feminists say about women being the sex class and the role prostitution plays in reinforcing that, but I'm also not sure that the usual solutions radical feminists propose (like, say, the Swedish model) will really help women all that much. (I read a post of Renegade Evolution's recently where she argued that criminalizing buying sex makes it more dangerous to sell sex, because the johns who are more willing to risk arrest are more likely to be violent. I found this persuasive, and thus am now fairly skeptical of the Swedish model). Your comment about the same services being needed both by women looking to escape sex work and by women who want to keep participating in it made a lot of sense.

I am also always happy to discover more non-neurotypical feminists!

Hey Hexy,

I don't know if part of your nervousness was a fear that people would be all raar or whatever, but thank you so much for being brave enough to share your thoughts in an interview. I've had your blog in my reader for a little bit, but it was awesome to hear more about your thoughts!

Lindsay: It is always good to find others, indeed!

Thanks for dropping by. Your comments on the Swedish model made me nod, it really is not set up with the rights and safety of sex workers as a top priority. Glad I made you think about the issue further!

Steph: Yes, considering the "discussion" going on in other comment threads related to sex work on Renee's blog, I was a bit scared of the response. It's been really positive, though, and I'm so pleased I participated! Now I just have to see if I can get myself posting regularly again...

Hey Hexy;

I wanted to stop by and say thanks so much for doing the interview. I am glad that it was a positive experience for you. I do have a wide berth in terms of commentary on my blog but it is because I want to give people the opportunity to fully explore the issues. I look forward to reading more of your work and reading your commentary at Womanist Musings.

Hexy, I really enjoyed reading that -- all your responses are so thoughtful and each one challenged me to look beyond my own preconceptions on a variety of topics. Thank you.

Brilliant! I'm only up to question 6 and my eyes have gone a bit fuzzy but I'll read the rest later :).

I'll link to it from my blog as well :)
